Every device in your home, finally explained

Why things fail

Nearly always the same cause

A great deal of equipment works only on the slower of the two Wi-Fi signals. Choosing by the bigger number is behind more failed setups than everything else put together.

2.4 GHzThrough two walls

Slower on paper, and it still arrives with something left after brick and plaster. This is the band most connected equipment is built around.

5 GHzThrough two walls

Far quicker where nothing stands in the way, and considerably weaker once something does. Excellent beside the router, unreliable across a floor.

Where most people begin

One question solves most of it

Which of your two Wi-Fi signals a device can actually use. Almost everything else follows from the answer.

Read the Wi-Fi guide

Written by one publisher, answerable for every page. DIGITALDOTS TECHNOLOGIES, of Ontario, Canada, publishes smartpulsehome.site. Not one maker, seller or platform holds any sway over what appears. Nothing is produced under licence, and no page is shown to anybody for approval before it goes up.

No telephone line here, and no such number has ever existed. Nobody gives individual advice. Nothing is reached into from a distance, nothing diagnosed, no fault chased, no account restored, nothing mended. No sign-in exists on any page, and no credential, card number or personal detail is ever requested. Where hardware of your own has genuinely gone wrong, that belongs with its maker, or with whoever sold it to you.
